Looking at coming up with some for my Natural Value Reclosable Sandwich Bags. Only problem is, there is no information about them. None. Zero. Looks like I am winging it. I also have decided I hate my sketchpad. I feel like a copywriter, not an art director. I’m switching to a spiral bound notebook. The same thing, I might add, that I write and sketch everything else in. Why should I change that just for ads?

The quest for a good book. (Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the pressure)

I need a good book. It is imperative. There is no reason on this earth to not have the best book that I possibly can. I have less than 2 years. The things we do in class will not work. It is amateur stuff. I need a good book. I will have a good book. There is no other option.

In the Spirit of Creativity

I have decided that I will be immersing myself within popular culture to help keep open eyes on what is going on in the world. I feel like this will make me a better advertiser. If I have my thumb on the pulse of pop culture, I can make relevant, new ads. My plan is as follows:

Watch (2) movies a week that I have never seen before from all different kinds of generes. I started this week with Across The Universe and Life of Brian. I plan on tackling Rambo, Terminator, Gone With the Wind, and Wall-E next.

Read (1) book a week. Doesn’t matter on what. Just want to read 1 a week. Going to focus on advertising books first because, hey, I wanna be an advertiser. The book of the week this week is Hey Whipple, Squeeze This. Next will be a biography of Ogilvy and a book on the ad industry.

Watch (2) episodes of a “hit” show. Not the usual stuff that I watch all the time. Stuff that is new to me. I will be watching Mad Men(again, because I am an advertiser) and Doctor Who coming up this week.

Read (1) magazine a week. This will be tricky but Library West has a large collection so I should be able to read a different type every week. I want to try and start with Rolling Stone.

If I can accomplish these goals I want to add more things such as watching a number of ads, going and seeing a new released movie or watching a news program. I am fairly immersed with pop culture already but I feel like knowledge is power.

Radio and Tv

So I downloaded something called Camtasia for another class. It is a really sweet piece of software that you can use to edit other software together, like audio and PowerPoint. I used it to make a presentation today as a matter of fact. I am thinking about making a real TV ad with it. I don’t know if it’s worth it though. Things to ponder I suppose.
